Brigadier-General George Bell Medal Nominees

The Brigadier-General George Bell Medal Selection Committee is pleased to announce the official nominees for this year’s medal. The Canadian Forces College awards the Brigadier-General George Bell Medal in recognition of commitment and excellence in military writing as displayed by a student on the Joint Command and Staff Programme.

The nominees for JCSP 45 are:

  • Maj Lara Jennings, “Recovering from Genocide: Reconciliation and Kagame’s Controversial Leadership in Rwanda.” [Link]
  • Maj Audrey Lavoie, « La rétention des post-milléniaux dans les forces armées canadiennes : Analyse générationnelle des stratégies à l’échelle de l’organisation et de l’individu. » [Link]
  • Maj Alison Lucas, “A Case for Mentorship: Developing Practical Guide For the Aspiring Mentor.” [Link]

For JCSP 45, the Brigadier-General George Bell Medal Selection Committee consisted of Mr Jeff Josselyn-Creighton, LCol Leighton James, Dr Barbara J. Falk, and, as an alternate, Dr Pierre Pahlavi. The committee members wish to extend their congratulations to all the nominated course members. The Brigadier-General George Bell Medal was presented to Major Lara Jennings during the Graduation Ceremony on 26 June 2019.

George Gray Bell

The late Brigadier-General George Gray Bell, OC, MBE, CD, a distinguished soldier and highly-regarded scholar, graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada and from the RCAF Staff College in 1947. He held BA and MA degrees from the University of Maryland and a PhD in International Relations from McGill University. During World War II, he served in the Netherlands and in Germany. Brigadier-General Bell retired from the Canadian Forces in 1973, after 33 years of service. He died at age 80 on 15 October 2000.
